As a conductor Alan has worked extensively within the brass band world as Musical Director and Guest Conductor with bands including Barrhead Burgh Band, Bathgate Band, Croy Band, Clydebank Burgh Band, Kirkintilloch Band, Kingdom Brass, Clackmannan Band and Johnstone Band, winning the Scottish Championships with Croy in 2001 and being placed runners up with Barrhead Burgh in 1999.
Since 1989 Alan has worked as an Instrumental brass teacher at Stewarton Academy, East Ayrshire.
Stewarton Academy's bands have been regular Gold award winners at the National Concert Band Festival since it's inception winning Gold again at the NCBF Regional Festival at Strathclyde University, Glasgow in October 2011.

MUSICAL DIRECTOR - ALAN FRIEL
Born in Glasgow Alan is an Instrumental music teacher and freelance trumpet player.
Alan began his musical life playing in local brass bands and concert bands. In 1982 Alan won a place in the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and subsequently went on to study performance and wind teaching at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama.
Whilst at the RSAMD Alan won the coveted Governors Recital Prize and later that same year was awarded the RSAMD Trumpet Prize.
During 1986 Alan auditioned for and won a place in the prestigious European Community Youth Orchestra touring to Japan, Greece and Europe under the batons of Claudio Abbado and Leonard Bernstein.
After concluding his studies at the RSAMD Alan continued with a Post Graduate year at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.
As a trumpet player Alan has worked with all of Scotland's orchestra's, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Opera Orchestra and further afield with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, working with Conductors such as Sir Alexander Gibson, Neemi Jarvi, Alexander Lazarev, Walter Weller and Sir Simon Rattle amongst others.
Since 1986 Alan has held the position of sub-principal Trumpet with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.
